It seems a bit like neo paganism. The Greeks and Romans also created gods in their own image but it didn’t work out too well.

Isaiah 44:9-10

9 All who make idols are nothing,

and the things they treasure are worthless.

Those who would speak up for them are blind;

they are ignorant, to their own shame.

10 Who shapes a god and casts an idol,

which can profit nothing?

You do wonder if the people who are suggesting AI has agency have actually used it. My experience with AI (and this could be me of course!) is that beyond simple tasks it is as thick as a plank.
