Information is never perfect, and decisions are made only with the data available. When information is politicized, the odds the real wolf will be missed rise drastically because the data has been corrupted and rendered worthless.
The public failure of the health care bureaucracy, with their wildly wrong Covid models, has left governments grasping around for some other mantle of authority they can acquire to justify their next power grab. They need some new "great and awesome Oz" since the Anthony Fauci's of the world have been exposed as mostly incompetent grifters. Artificial intelligence offers an attractive vehicle for reacquiring the lost mystique of "the experts". The poor explainability of AI models in general ought to give everyone pause, but the kind of people attracted to government power will no doubt think that's a feature and not a bug.
