Phone Booths
I read to my grandson every night for 30-45 minutes at bedtime. You can blow through a lot of books when you do that day in and day out. He's started reading and recognizing words himself and we've been working through Richard Scarry's Best Word Book Ever to let him work on word recognition.
Scarry's books were written back in the early 1960's and, let's just say, not everything is recognizable to a 5 yr old in the 21st century.
Last night we had a conversation about phone booths. It seemed completely absurd to him that there used to be little closets scattered around housing enormous telephones - phones too big to carry around in your pocket. And the idea that phones in the past didn't have screens and wouldn't do anything but let you talk was completely mind blowing for him.
Sigh.
