I appreciate your thoughts here. Almost as much as by your words though, I find myself moved by the picture of a mother and baby. It had slipped my mind how babies often bite your shoulder as you hold them, and that sweet image brought back the dormant memory. Love it.

Of course, my children are the best examples of the miraculous breaking into the mundane in my life. We were told we would never have children, at least not without invasive reproductive technologies and probably including donor gametes. My first daughter in particular was a shocking rebuttal to that belief. In no way did I accept my smaller scale miracle with the calm and grace you describe here. I became a roil of anxiety as my beliefs about the world collapsed. Still, no matter how much of a mess I was grace came looking for me. This is so amazing to me, I feel like I will spend the rest of my life trying to understand it.

That painting is my all-time favorite rendering of Mary and baby Jesus. I actually had a framed print made through the artist's web site and it hangs on the wall of my son and daughter-in-law's home. I'm so happy for you and your children.

If people would accept the sovereignty of God, many theological arguments would be put to rest.
